"Void" MMRVT0026 ***
A 44-minute demo CD from Danyo Romijn who was a member of Pink Project, a cover band which played Pink Floyd pieces, and is currently in a progressive rock band, "Nangyala". The four tracks on this CD are much more along the line of solo synth work though, opening with "Questions Without Answers", all Jarre-like arpeggiated patterns over analog sweeps and echoed bass, an continuing into "Neurotoxicity", which breaks down in the middle into something like Pink Floyd's "Careful With That Axe Eugene...".
Danyo's basic instrumentation of Roland U-20 and Alpha Juno 2 synths, Atari with Cubase, plus sound effects, is stretched to its fullest on ""The Underworld", a more classically-influenced piece which reflects his stated influences from Mike Oldfield, Peter Mergener and Gandalf. Bits of Larry Fast (Synergy) seems to peek through here as well...
In closing, "Egoless" again starts classically and chordally influenced, slides into a rather scrappy echoed sequence and through some actually identifiable Jean-Michel Jarre chords into an odd, machine-like ending.
Some good ideas here, and it would be fun to see them developed on a full-length album with a wider choice of instrumentation.
